Overview
Why This Matters For Your Brand
Trustpilot allows businesses to flag reviews that may breach its guidelines. We assess the actual grounds, prepare a proportionate evidence file and help businesses manage eligible Trustpilot review removal reports and decision appeals. A review being unfair or damaging is not enough: Trustpilot independently decides whether it meets its rules. Our approach is built for businesses facing suspected fake reviews, reviews aimed at a different company, misuse of personal information, harmful content or a previous Trustpilot decision they believe was made without important evidence. We do not claim privileged access or guaranteed removal.
What Trustpilot allows businesses to flag
Trustpilot's business guidelines identify specific reporting grounds. These include harmful or illegal material; another person's personal information; advertising and promotional material; reviews not based on a genuine experience; and reviews that are actually about another business.
See Trustpilot's current business guidelines for the applicable definitions and exclusions.
- 01
Not based on a genuine experience
flag when you have a specific, defensible reason to question whether an experience occurred. A purchase is not always required for an experience to be genuine.
- 02
Wrong business
a review clearly describing another company or a product or location your company does not offer may warrant reporting.
- 03
Personal information
distinguish another person's private information from the reviewer's own details or publicly available business information.
- 04
Harmful or illegal content
policy categories include threats, discriminatory language and qualifying defamatory factual allegations.
- 05
Promotional or spam content
unrelated advertising, suspicious solicitation and certain other spam can violate the rules.
Our Trustpilot review removal methodology
1. Diagnose the review. We capture the review URL and wording, the Trustpilot business profile, relevant dates, prior flags and the specific suspected policy breach.
2. Prepare the evidence. We distinguish factual business records from assumptions. For a wrong-business claim, for example, evidence may include the referenced product, legal entity, website or location. Personal customer data should be minimised and shared securely only where needed.
3. Flag on the correct basis. Trustpilot permits businesses to flag reviews through their business account, with Content Integrity review of qualifying reports. A review may remain visible during the investigation; flagged harmful or illegal content is treated differently.
4. Understand the decision. The business receives an outcome. If additional material is requested, we help structure a factual response, avoiding unsupported assertions about reviewer identity or intent.
5. Appeal where appropriate. From April 2026, Trustpilot introduced decision emails with an 'Appeal our Decision' link. Businesses should follow the current instructions in the actual decision notification, explain the relevant error and attach supporting documents. Repeatedly misusing flags is not a substitute for an appeal.

Cases involving wrong-company or wrong-location reviews
Misattribution cases can sometimes be more clearly evidenced than broad claims that a negative review is fake. A review mentioning a different legal entity, non-existent branch, unrelated product or another company's website may create a tangible basis for review. We organise these facts clearly and submit the appropriate category where justified. Reviewers may still have a genuine experience that differs from your records, so outcomes are not automatic.
Trustpilot case management for larger organisations
For e-commerce operators, service groups and businesses with multiple brands or domains, we can create an audit trail of individual review reports, evidence requested, appeal dates and final decisions. This reduces duplicated work and helps distinguish a genuine policy issue from a broader service or reputation issue.
What you are paying for
Trustpilot's own flagging and reporting tools are available without buying our service. Our work covers issue classification, evidence review, structured submissions, available appeals and an auditable case history. A qualified assessment lets you decide whether an individual dispute is worth pursuing before committing to additional work.
We do not promise success rates, guaranteed timelines, removal of genuine criticism or special arrangements with Trustpilot.
Request a Trustpilot removal assessment
Send the review URL, public business profile, reason you believe the guidelines are breached, prior flagging decisions and any relevant evidence summary. Do not send account passwords or unnecessary private customer records by ordinary email.
Request a Trustpilot policy assessment, read our guide to how Trustpilot review removal works, or compare our Google review removal service and Glassdoor review-dispute service.
How we verify a Trustpilot removal request
Each flag or appeal should identify a specific Trustpilot business-guideline ground and a proportionate evidence trail. Learn more about our review integrity assessment methodology and the circumstances where we recommend not filing a dispute.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
A low rating, harsh opinion, criticism of customer service, an anonymous username, the absence of an order number, or the fact that a reviewer never paid for a product does not automatically make their experience ineligible. Trustpilot recognises genuine experiences that may not involve a purchase and expects businesses to report fairly and consistently, including where similar issues appear in positive reviews.
Where a review is policy-compliant, responding appropriately or resolving the underlying issue is usually more productive than repeated flags. We recommend that course when the evidence does not substantiate a removal ground.
